I think this is a pretty simple telling. It really lays it out there for everyone to understand. This is almost the School House Rock version without the music.

Demon Sheep
So this is the scandalous commercial against Tom Campbell in the Republican primary for Senate. Going into viewing the commercial I thought that no matter what that I would support whom ever runs against Barbara Boxer. Now I am not sure.
I find the commercial ridiculous and stupid. But it is the primary and things get dirty within the party. But a few things hit me. Like why would Fiorina grasp at such obvious straws instead of doing a real piece? Well, when you are the person who ran a stable, work horse company like HP into the ground...You gotta knock somebody out by the knees in order to really be able to pose as the stable one.
Then there was the tag line. "Carly for California" What? Are you a high school cheerleader? You are a grown woman running for the Senate. Come on. And kudos to you, Campbell for making hay out of this!

A Declaration
NerdDad found this. I don't think he has heard the original song it is a take off of (which I like) so I will have to show him that video;). I have never heard of these people before but I already love them! I think this will be a great way to get the kiddo's memorizing the Declaration!!!

Easy to Understand Economic Theory
Going to public school we were told that Keynes was what the economy was not only a simple theory. Much less a theory that had been disproven years ago. I love the fact that my kids will be taught many economic theories. Obviously I agree with Hayek. This is a great breakdown of the 2 theories!

Give Christmas Away
I love Matthew West, Amy Grant, VeggieTales and Operation Christmas Child. This is an interview with Matthew West and Amy Grant about the song they did for the new VeggieTales Christmas DVD. The song starts 4 minutes in but it is a good piece with Huckabee too!

Everything Skit
*** Repost! This was discussed last week at my Women's Bible study and was requested so I am reposting it! I originally posted this back in January of 2008.
This has been floating around out there so it wouldn't surprise me if you all have seen it. All my MOPS girls have it on their Myspace pages. But I post it for any who haven't. When I first saw this skit I was a little harsh on it. I saw the Christ representation standing unable to get to her. But upon rewatching, you see Him pulling and when she has fought with all she has and has no more He intervened. Be prepared to shed a tear. I have every time I have watched it. Christ is waiting for us and our focus to be on Him. When it is and we use our strength to move towards Him, He will do the rest we need.
**Warning: this deals with real issues, not in graphic but obvious imagery. So don't watch with kids unless you are ready to answer a couple of questions.

Bethlehem Rhapsody
Found this over at a friend's blog (Living Vessel) and thought it was great! Of course I love the original song too so that helps;). I think this is something that the worship group and choir at my church could do really well! (Patmo, Alan I am talking to you 2;)

The Education of Jon Stewart and America (We Hope)
This is a great piece. Partly because it is just a hilariously true story about the shenanigans that Acorn pulls and partly because it is fun watching Jon Stewart's eyes being opened. Jon Stewart does say a couple of bad words but they are completely bleeped. I laughed so hard about the whole situation that I teared up a bit.
Apparently Acorn claims the tapes have been altered but they have fired every employee in them.

The Arts and Your Heart
I am on a big performing arts kick right now. I am percolating on a blog piece (if I get time to think again;) but until then this piece should touch your heart. Tice Diorio choreographed this piece for a friend of his with breast cancer. Melissa's ballerina body paired with Ade's strength really helped to bring this piece into focus for me and always brings a tear to my. But that is why I love dance. It moves you be it to joy or pain. So watch this (full screen if you can) and let me know if it affects you at all!

Warehouse 13
NerdDad and I watched the new SyFy (I don't like that moniker one bit) show Warehouse 13. It was pretty good. I like things that reference odd historical legends so right there it had a good start. It was also pretty family friendly spare a couple words I didn't care for. Hulu has this behind the scenes clip that is really good. It has some background information I wished had been on the show. Maybe the creators have it in a future episode. Check it out!

Unnecessary (muppet) roughness
I'm not usually surprised by the gratuitous sex and violence I see on TV. Ads for The Cougar during Green Acres, chat lines during Star Trek, and ED pills on almost anything are amoung those I have to vigilanly skip if I want to watch TV with my kids. But how can I explain this to my kids:

Don't Stop
NerdMom and I have head this song performed a few times lately (on Glee, the Tony awards show, and I think Don't Forget the Lyrics) and the quality has varied from "OK" to "Why?". Especially confusing is why it's now considered a duet. If you had Karen Carpenter and Joe Cocker on their best days, you still couldn't compete with Steve Perry singing a Journey power ballad. But that won't stop anyone, as the good folks at College Humor demonstrate.

We think this is a good idea? Really?
I have found the way we know that the stimulus package isn't going to do anything, they are having Joe Biden overseeing it. He couldn't even properly give out the web address (www.recovery.org). Hit & Run compares it to trusting Uncle Billy with the bank's money in It's a Wonderful Life.

Jackman's Oscar Musical
I am not a big Oscar watcher. I figure that I will see a list of the winners on the internet and watch a tv show to see the prettiest (and ugliest) dresses of the night. My only regret for not watching this year was Hugh Jackman. I mean, what kind of girlie-girl nerd would I be if I didn't adore a man who can be both Curly and Wolverine? (No, I haven't seen The Boy From Oz) So I was delighted to find this great clip of Jackman's musical opening number from the Oscars. It even has a little help from Anne Hathaway!

I Think Someone is Hinting
NerdDad sent me a piece talking about how great the Dr. Horrible DVD is. So you think someone might be hinting for Valentine's Day? It is only $10.50 so I may just have to get it for me (I mean him;). If you missed Dr. Horrible or haven't heard of him, get out from under the internet rock. Dr. Horrible was hilarious and I definitely want to see it again! Joss Whedon is a genius with Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion are so funny!

The New Doctor
So my friend Sue and I were heart broken when we found out that David Tennant was leaving Doctor Who. Well, the new Doctor has been announced. It is 26 year old Matt Smith. I watched the extended interview and he just seems so young. I loved Tennant but I also really liked previous Doctor also. I am afraid Smith is just missing something maybe a certain gravitas. But in his mannerisms I do see the beginnings of the Doctor in him. So what do you all think?

Convicted By an Atheist
I have to say that many times I can really find myself convicted by people who don't believe in God. I saw this video on the Anchoress.
When the Anchoress said:
But another thing really hit me. He repeatedly says this is a good man. All it took for this businessman to make an impression was to be kind and sincere. I think that I can do at least that in life. But I can say that I often think it isn't enough to count as far as my witness goes. I fear that I need just the right words, opportunities or something shockingly special. Apparently you don't. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think Penn Jillette has converted but can you deny a seed. Either in him or any of the many people who watches his little video? And how many Christian lives are going to be changed? I hope at least mine.
When the Anchoress said:
The second message is as far from passive as you can get, and it comes from Jillette himself; “How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible, and not tell them that?”
Think about it. How many times have you not engaged someone - and not exclusively for the purpose of proselytizing, but on any level - because you’ve simply assumed they are ‘not the sort’ to be receptive to you, or they are ‘one of them’ - the avowed secularists? Is that a sort of passive, impersonal “hate?” When you’ve passed them by, have you stopped to think that everything a Christian says or does, how a Christian comports himself or herself, minute-by-minute, gives endless witness, and so only kindliness will do?
But another thing really hit me. He repeatedly says this is a good man. All it took for this businessman to make an impression was to be kind and sincere. I think that I can do at least that in life. But I can say that I often think it isn't enough to count as far as my witness goes. I fear that I need just the right words, opportunities or something shockingly special. Apparently you don't. NerdDad and I are a little frustrated that there aren't any good educational shows that are aimed at the NerdBug (2nd grade). They are all kindergarten or earlier. Where have 321 Contact, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego and the Electric Company gone? Or one of our favorites SquareOne TV?

YouTube and Homeschooling
Does anyone else remember the animated science show on PBS called Eureka? Well, it is probably not surprising that bother NerdDad and I loved this show as kids. So NerdDad set to searching this out for the Nerdlings and Eureka! he found them. There are 30 pieces of episodes over at YouTube. We have downloaded them and uploaded them to the Tivo. NerdBug and NerdPie are loving them. They may not understand all the complex science but they ask to watch them over and over. So I am sure that the science will sink in! So I don't know who BubbleBear83 is but I appreciate the effort. Now that is using the Internet to our advantage!

Super Hero Movie of the Year
I am in the process of introducing my wife to all aspects of nerd culture that she was deprived of as a child. It began when we were dating (X-Files, The Simpsons) and has progressed through some of the later Star Trek series (though her Shatner-tolerance is still woefully lacking). But I still haven't gotten her to what was the core of my nerdy youth: comic books. (I figure that at least half of the money that went through my fingers from ages 9-15 was spent on comic books.) That is why I dedicate the post to NerdMom, in hopes that someday she will come to understand that the following youtube clip is the greatest thing that the Internet has ever put before my eyes.

Now We Find Out What Ford Really Thought
I have to say that I have always understood the fine tight rope that former Presidents are forced to walk. They never enjoyed open criticism when they were President yet I am sure that they have plenty to say about the numbskulls that later occupied the White House. Well, Gerald Ford found a great way to handle it. He did a series of tapes with Daily News Washington Bureau Chief Thomas M. DeFrank in order for DeFrank to write Write it When I'm Gone
. So far we have found out that Ford thought Bill Clinton was a sex addict and Hillary wore the pants in the family. I think this will not only by anecdotally interesting but we might get more insight into what drove Ford and what really happened in this situations that we are all curious about. Such as,
Let me just declare now, I want this book! If there is a publisher out there who would like me to review this book over here, please just mail me a copy;). I have a request in at the library already (I am #6 and they don't have it yet) so when I read it I am sure you guys will get to hear about it. But if you read it first Share!
(HT: Instapundit)
After the House voted to impeach Clinton but before the Senate's decision on whether to convict him, the sitting President phoned the ex-President.
"He said he needed my help and wanted to know if I could help," Ford recalled not long after.
Ford had written two Op-Ed pieces in which he called for Clinton to admit he had lied to federal investigators in exchange for censure over impeachment.
He told Clinton that he would help him, if he agreed to such a deal.
"Bill I think you have to admit that you lied. If you do that, I think that will help - and I'll help you. If you'll admit to perjury, I'll do more," he said.
"I won't do that," Clinton told him. "I can't do that."

Four minutes to a nerdier you!
Here at the nerdFamily blog, we like to celebrate all things nerdy. And believe me when I tell you that there isn't a scientific subject more nerdy than string theory. Their pick - String Ducky:
Viewers' pick - The Problem with Math:
You are now significantly nerdier than you were four minutes ago. You're welcome.
