Lost, You Better Not Make Me Mad

After years of hearing how great it is, NerdDad and I just recently started watching Lost. What can I say, we are early adopters;). We started in the beginning on Hulu (gotta love Hulu). So far we are a few episodes into the 2nd season. We are very aware of the fact that the current season being shown is the last season. Frankly, I love it when a show knows it is the final season because then it gets a chance to answer the many questions that have been left sticking up through the series.

So the fact the series is ending is one of the reasons I was willing to wade into the Lost maze. Then I see a post from I09 that NerdDad shared with me..... I am afraid that when this series ends I will not be happy. Damon Lindelof off sites Star Wars and midichlorians as the example that some things just don't need to be known. Now I agree with I09 that the problem with the midichlorians is whole other issue. But the Force was explained before them.

But my real problem is that I am now really nervous. I don't want to watch all these hours of Lost to only have more questions. I already have a list of questions and I am only in the 2nd season! I will be mighty testy if I don't get my answers!

So all you Losties out there. If all your questions that you have (being in the final season) aren't answered will you feel like you wasted all this time?

I Can't Believe We Did But We Did It and It's Done!

Yes, I am channeling a little My fair Lady;). But to the point!

We love tv over here. When NerdDad and I got married money was tight but we always found a way to pay for cable. It was a priority right behind tithing, rent and power;). It was right after the then slow internet. Then we grew up to the Dish. And 2, yes 2 tivo's. But it has hit us lately that most of what we really want to watch, and not all the mindless drivel that we often watch, was actually free on the internet. So we cancelled the satellite dish.

Yes, we don't even get local channels right now. I am still in shock. We cancelled Monday morning after we saw the second half of the Doctor Who special (can't watch BBC online in America). I am still adjusting because Food Network doesn't really have anything online and that is disappointing. We are planning on getting an antenna and digital converter box for the tivo so we can record things like Jeopardy so that will change. But over all we are doing pretty good and still watching a ton of tv;).

The Education of Jon Stewart and America (We Hope)

This is a great piece. Partly because it is just a hilariously true story about the shenanigans that Acorn pulls and partly because it is fun watching Jon Stewart's eyes being opened. Jon Stewart does say a couple of bad words but they are completely bleeped. I laughed so hard about the whole situation that I teared up a bit.

Mythbusters, Grant and Twitter

#gorncannon story meeting on Twitpic

NerdDad shared a piece on the Gorn Cannon that Mythbusters is going to do in the next season. The picture and the information was found on Grant Imahara's Twitter. While the Gorn Cannon is cool (it is from Star Trek for those who don't know) I was more shocked that I wasn't following Grant. I have to say he is my favorite, he reminds me of some high school friends. But I rectified the situation;).

Warehouse 13

NerdDad and I watched the new SyFy (I don't like that moniker one bit) show Warehouse 13. It was pretty good. I like things that reference odd historical legends so right there it had a good start. It was also pretty family friendly spare a couple words I didn't care for. Hulu has this behind the scenes clip that is really good. It has some background information I wished had been on the show. Maybe the creators have it in a future episode. Check it out!

Quite a Day for the Stars

Today both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson have died. I have to say it is very shocking and my prayers go out to their families. But, does that mean all that will be on tv for the next couple weeks is Charlies Angels and the Jackson Family mini-series?

New Torchwood

For those of you who haven't heard of Torchwood, it is a spin off of Doctor Who that is shown on BBC America. I do have to put in the caveat that this is built around a character named Captain Jack Harkness, who is not family friendly. This is not appropriate for children. This is definitely racier than Doctor Who.

Starting Monday July 20th there will be a 5 night miniseries called Torchwood: Children of Earth. So set the Tivo's to record!

Unnecessary (muppet) roughness

I'm not usually surprised by the gratuitous sex and violence I see on TV. Ads for The Cougar during Green Acres, chat lines during Star Trek, and ED pills on almost anything are amoung those I have to vigilanly skip if I want to watch TV with my kids. But how can I explain this to my kids:

Flash Mob Show Promotions?

This is stunt to promote the new MC Hammer show on A&E. I want to know where that store is so that I won't go there;). Though the old guy with the headband is familiar from the dance show TLC tried to do. This just didn't have the same wow effect as the train station in Europe.

Buffy Without Joss?

What would a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie be without Joss Whedon? Or be without the story he built up over these years? Apparently the original movie director is thinking about doing a remake without Joss. I think now that Buffy has built up a large following (of which I am one) they can't go backwards and flush all that Joss Whedon has built. What do you think? Will it survive without him?

While we are a pro-tv family, we wish there was more Christian media out there and this might be the answer! Watch the clips and then go check it out!!!

Jackman's Oscar Musical

I am not a big Oscar watcher. I figure that I will see a list of the winners on the internet and watch a tv show to see the prettiest (and ugliest) dresses of the night. My only regret for not watching this year was Hugh Jackman. I mean, what kind of girlie-girl nerd would I be if I didn't adore a man who can be both Curly and Wolverine? (No, I haven't seen The Boy From Oz) So I was delighted to find this great clip of Jackman's musical opening number from the Oscars. It even has a little help from Anne Hathaway!

A Little TV News

So first the good news. TNT's new show Leverage has been renewed for another season! This is one of the best new shows I have seen in a long time. Now I must admit that there has always been something charming about Timothy Hutton but that isn't the reason we watch it. The show really is good. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out this week!

The bad/so-so news. ABC Family's Middleman isn't on this year's schedule but last season will be coming out on DVD. It was a pretty funny sci-fi show. It is disappointing that it wasn't picked up.

MTV and Fox Dance Show Crossover

I love dance shows. I know that comes as a shock due to the fact that I am uncoordinated, overweight and out of shape but love them. I watch everything from ballet to ball room (and I mean real ballroom, not just Dancing with the Stars) to the pop dance shows. I am one of those people who can't do but can critique;).

So I just found out today that America's Best Dance Crew had started its new season so I tivo'ed it. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Quest Crew. They have 2 members who were very memorable on So You Think You Can Dance, Hok and Dominic. The crew itself has even danced on So You Think You Can Dance. Of course their crew rocked it!

So any of you who loved Dominic and Hok go watch America's Best Dance Crew!

The New Doctor

So my friend Sue and I were heart broken when we found out that David Tennant was leaving Doctor Who. Well, the new Doctor has been announced. It is 26 year old Matt Smith. I watched the extended interview and he just seems so young. I loved Tennant but I also really liked previous Doctor also. I am afraid Smith is just missing something maybe a certain gravitas. But in his mannerisms I do see the beginnings of the Doctor in him. So what do you all think?

I Am Totally Stealing That!

My kids have always wanted to do a pinata but we don't have any trees in our yard. So we haven't. Well, NerdDad and I are laptopping it and watching 17 Kids and Counting and now we know how we are going to do pinatas. The Duggars were hanging them down over the second floor banister. We are so going to do that!

Scrubs: The Joy and the Pain

I saw a commercial for the new season of Scrubs to be aired in January on ABC. I was so excited. Then this morning I see that not only is Zach Braff leaving Scrubs, he has already left (this new season is done filming). Apparently he is enjoying his free time in Israel and gave an interesting interview to Haaretz. I had no idea that he came from a Kosher home. But apparently he has been so inspired by his trip to Israel that it may be an inspiration for a new movie.

He does say that Scrubs isn't necessarily ending but we will see what it is like without him.

Rooting for Failure

I feel a bit guilty but I am now rooting for Pushing Daisies to fail and fail soon! It appears that if Pushing Daisies doesn't get picked up by mid-January its creator, Brian Fuller, will come back to Heroes. While he wouldn't come back on staff it looks like he will consult. Heroes has been lacking in quality this season even though there seems to be a great setup and a good base going.

Though I do think it is brilliant of Fuller to make ABC aware if they drop his show he will bury them on NBC with Heroes.

NerdDad and I are a little frustrated that there aren't any good educational shows that are aimed at the NerdBug (2nd grade). They are all kindergarten or earlier. Where have 321 Contact, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego and the Electric Company gone? Or one of our favorites SquareOne TV?

Divorce and Houses To Big?

I am watching Moving Up on TLC and I have a question. I have seen and interview similar to this many times. A divorcee is leaving her house because it is just way to big for her and the kids. Does 1 person make all that much of a size difference? I understand that there are many reasons for moving in a divorce but this particular reason just doesn't make sense.

I hate the makers of Army Wives!

Ok, not really but I just finished watching the Season 2 premiere of Army Wives(I love Tivo) and....

SPOILER ALERT!!!! If you are going to watch it and haven't stop reading.

Going in to this episode we were told that we would be loosing a cast member so I was sort of prepared. We see all the major cast members except a couple of the husbands (we know they aren't going to die or the wives would have to leave base). The bar owner is in a coma and I assume that Betty is going to be the "beloved member who is leaving us". We saw all the wives on base except Claudia Joy who was banged up and taking her banged up daughter to college (which we knew was happening). Then less than 10 minutes to the end we find out the whole interaction between Claudia and Amanda is in Claudia's head because Amanda is in the process of dieing. I cried, no sobbed. This show can already get to my emotions but this was sobbing. You know the ugly cry; snot, tears. That was a dirty, dirty trick.

Breaking News: Tim Russert is Dead

Tim Russert has passed away from a heart attack at the age of 58. The host of Meet the Press had the heart attack while recording voice overs an upcoming episode. I knew that Russert had been in politics for ever, working for people like Daniel Patrick Moynihan, but I didn't realize that he won an Emmy for his coverage of Ronald Reagan's funeral. While I didn't always agreed with his political views, he did such a balanced job on Meet the Press that I always liked watching the show. His presence will definitely be missed.

American Idol Confession

Ok, I don't watch American Idol. I know it is shocking. But, this morning I was listening to KDUV, my Christian radio station, and they were talking about the big American Idol fundraiser that was on last night. Joe and Shannon said that the closing song was shocking and then played a little bit of it. It was "Shout to the Lord". I confess that I just started tearing up immediately. The idea that the most watched show in television was playing that song is very exciting to me. After I get home today I will see if I can find a YouTube of it.

****Updated

Here is the YouTube. Within a half hour of my posting this one of my favorite nieces sent me the link! There is talk about the editing of the original words of the song. They did change "my Jesus" in the beginning but I am not sweating it. Anyone who has seen an infomercial has seen this being part of a Christian worship album so I don't think there is a mystery as to who it is really about.

Project Runway is Over!

So Project Runway is over for this season. Due to illness it has taken a while to get around to commenting on it. Now I preface my opinions with the fact that I admit that I am not, by any means, fashionable. More accurately you could say that I dress more like a housefrau. But, if money, size and life style (washing dishes and getting spit up on doesn't work well for clothes) were no issue, I would be fierce;).

So Christian won and I am a little disappointed. While I do think that Christian was the most artistic, I am not sure if he is the best clothing designer for women. Jillian and Rami both seemed to have looks that a woman with some sort of curvature could wear. I have heard in a few places that no one but Victoria Beckham, Christian himself and pre-pubescent girls could wear his clothes and I agree. Will it do Christian any good to have his line sold on BlueFly? Will it be bought by people to wear or as collectors items? I think he could really be great one day as long as he learns to temper his flare with the actual human form. Only time will tell his real potential.

Seperately, there is a great interview with Tim Gunn in the Chicago Tribune. Even more interesting is Victoria's response on Blogging Project Runway to part of that interview.

Project Runway: The Reunion

So did anyone watch the Project Runway reunion show last night? I think the thing that actually shocked me the most is when Tim Gunn asked if anything had been said that was really hurtful to any of them. Then Carmen Webber had said that things that had been said when she left had really hurt. Things like "I am just glad it wasn't me" and "Even if she had finished it wouldn't have been that good" that had been said by other competitors. Really? That was soooo unreasonable? For those of you who don't remember it was the menswear challenge and everyone was afraid that they would be sent home. I guess I am shocked that her skin was so thin. When the judges were asked about the worst design and they alluded to her design that got her tossed she actually looked angry. The judges just mentioned it as one of the worst designs because she sent her model out with cloth around his neck instead of a shirt. She could have had a sense of humor about the whole challenge like others did but I guess that just isn't part of her personality.

Oh, I found a great blog, Blogging Project Runway!

Grissom Leaving?

According to Buddy TV, William Petersen gave an interview to British Radio Times about him leaving CSI. While it seems vague it does seem impending. He also seems very critical of the whole franchise. The one thing that seems to hold him back is his responsibility to all who have a job through what he does. Maybe he realizes that without his character there is no CSI. If he leaves I wonder if they will try to replace his character and possibly let the show die a slow death or if they are just going to close up shop.

Project Runway is Back!

So as I am typing they are about to announce the winner and loser of this season's premiere episode of Project Runway and I have a couple of thoughts.

First, what was up with the chick using herself as the mannequin while she draped, pinned and fitted on herself? Was she the same one rubbing the silk on the grass to stain it? Can anyone say freakshow?

This season seems to have more accomplished designers than before. Hopefully that means they will be very talented and a little more professional in their demeanor.

How you know they really didn't care for your dress? When a judge says it looked like the model was "pooing fabric". The weird part is they kept that one.

Isn't Tim Gunn great?
